Troop Meeting Friday October 12, 2018

–         Class A Uniforms

–         We will be discussing hiking skills in preparation for the trip to Quail Hill.  Please read pages 262-283 in your Handbook

Condolence Message & Religious Emblems Information

It is with deep sadness that we must inform you of the passing of Assistant Scoutmaster Joe Smith, loving husband of Darlene and father of Troop 37 Eagle Scout Justin Smith. Joe and Darlene were always involved with our troop and he will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Smith family during this difficult time and may Joe always rest in peace.  

 

Religious Emblems

Just a reminder the Catholic Religious Emblems, the Ad Altare Dei and Pope Pius XII classes will begin at our next scout meeting. All scouts interested in earning these awards must attend this important meeting on October 12th at 6:30 PM in the Lower Church Hall. Please make sure that you purchase the appropriate book at the scout store prior to the meeting and bring a pen as well. If you have any questions please contact Steve Jerome at 718-619-6484.


Troop Meeting Friday October 5, 2018

–         We will be conducting an election for the new Senior Patrol Leader. Everyone is asked to attend so they have a say in who their new leader will be;

–         After the opening ceremony, the candidates will be given the opportunity to briefly address the Troop, after which voting will be conducted;

–         Once the SPL is elected, new Patrols will be formed;

–         Last year’s Patrol Leaders must return their Patrol Boxes at this meeting. Please conduct an inventory of the Patrol Box, complete the attached, Patrol Box Inventory list, Patrol Box Inventory Form and bring it to the meeting;

–         Class A Uniforms;

–         The Skill of the month is hiking.  Please read pages 262-283 in your Handbook.

–         Anyone who has a tent from JLT, please return it to the Quartermaster.

Quail Hill Camping TripFriday, October 19 to Sunday, October 21 We will be sleeping in tents. Cost is $30.  On Saturday, October 20, we will be hiking the historic Battle of Monmouth Trail.  Any scout completing this 11 mile hike can earn a medal.  If you are interested in receiving the medal, please add $6 to your payment.  The permission slip for this trip is attached here.  All payments are due by this Friday, October 5, 2018.

Joe Ferretti’s Eagle Project- this Saturday, October 6 at 8:30 am in Richmondtown, 441 Clarke Avenue.  See attached flyer here . Please try to attend to help out your fellow scout.


Joe Ferretti’s Eagle Project Needs Your Help

My Eagle project will take place at Historic Richmond Town, 441 Clarke Ave. 10306, on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6TH @ 8:30 AM with a rain date of SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7TH. We will be meeting in the main parking lot. The project involves scraping and painting of the fence around the courthouse. All supplies/equipment will be provided, as well as breakfast and lunch.

What is JLT? JLT Training is the leadership training given primarily by the Scoutmaster to all the youth leaders in their troop. ALL Boy Scout troops should conduct the JLT course with every leadership shift—whether it is when the youth get a new troop position or a patrol leadership role.

PLEASE BE SURE TO FOLLOW THE BELOW INSTRUCTIONS IN DETAIL:

 

No Backpacks – Use a soft Bag or Duffle /Gym Bag

 

Must Bring [ ]  A Cup to Drink and Eat out of

                    [ ]  Water bottle/ Nalgene (unbreakable type)

                   [ ]  Must Bring a Troop Class B T-shirt (to wear Saturday)

                   [ ]  Hiking Boots / Raingear

                   [ ]  Pack a sandwich/snack for Friday night’s dinner

                    [ ]  Appropriate Clothing (temperatures are going to drop- cooler upstate)

 

**Teams are going to make soda bottle water rockets – bring an empty 2-liter soda bottle(s) if you can****

Do a Good Turn- Msgr. Belford has advised me that the St. Teresa’s Food Pantry, which serves the needy in our community, is chronically low on food.  He appreciates the amount of food that we collect during Scouting For Food, but asked if we could do more.  So, once per month, we are going to request donations of non-perishable food items that we can give to the pantry. Our first collection will be this Friday. Please donate if you can. “To whom much is given, much is expected.”

Volunteer Opportunity – The Staten Island Shakespearean Theatre Company needs help with their production of Measure for Measure inside Fort Tompkins at Fort Wadsworth  They need volunteers to help direct audience members to Fort Tompkins from the Visitor Center parking lot, and then helping them with seats (some bring their own), handing out programs, giving out water, and just general help. The have a very large number of elderly people that come see the show and who will need help. The shows are September 15, 16 & 22, 23 at 4:00pm.  If you are interested in helping, please let Mr. Pfuhler know.

Welcome back! We hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe summer vacation.

We will be conducting our first meeting on Friday, September 7, 2018 in lower church hall at 7:30pm.  Uniform standards are relaxed, please wear Class B.

Parents are asked to attend registration and stay for a meeting with the Scoutmaster.

On Tuesday July 10th at 7:00PM-8:00PM , we will be at St. Teresa’s Lower Church Hall to collect any outstanding summer camp fees, medical paperwork and distribute your scouts ordered Class “B” T-shirts.

Please note: you must have all outstanding issues resolved at this meeting as we WILL NOT be accepting any fees or paperwork on the day departure.

SUMMER CAMP FEES
[ ] Hawk Mountain
[ ] Volunteer Fire Dept Breakfast ($12.00 per person) –submit a headcount (scouts already paid for)
[ ] Friday Night Chicken Dinner ($9.00 ) (scouts already paid for)

MEDICAL
[ ] Medicals Forms A, B & C (2 copies with Insurance card front and back) MUST HAVE

Important Summer Camp Information

We will all meet for Mass at Saint Teresa’s next Sunday July 15th at 7:00 AM Sharp. Meet at the Lower Church Hall parking lot. After the vehicles are loaded and Mass is finished we will leave for the camp at about 8:30 AM. We will make our annual stop again this year at the , PA for a Breakfast Buffet. (Directions Here)

Families are needed to drive up to the camp with us. There will be a lot of equipment and scouts to transport.

  • All Scouts and leaders will wear the Class B Troop T-shirt up to the camp and Breakfast. We will change into Class “A” once we arrive at camp.
  • Please make sure your son(s) have their bathing suit on under their class B uniform (scout shorts/pants, socks, belt, Troop T-shirt) or readily available (not packed in a trunk) with their towel. They should also have their Class A Uniform shirt and Neckerchief readily available (not packed in a trunk) for as soon as we arrive at camp to take the troop photo.
  • Have a full water bottle to keep on their person as they tour the camp and to use daily to keep themselves hydrated.
  • Thursday is Hawaiian Shirt Day at Camp if you have a Hawaiian shirt bring it.
  • Be sure to bring Scout Socks Full dress “Class A” uniform for all breakfast and evening meals at the dining hall. For both camp wide campfires full dress class A uniform including Scout Socks
  • Bring a Hanger to Hang up your Uniform
  • Bring Your Scout Handbook to camp
  • Put your name or initials on the labels of all your clothing (especially uniform items)
  • Don’t Bring Valuables or any Electronic Devices (CELL PHONES, Ipod’s, games, phones, radios, etc.) to camp. Leave them at home.
  • Scout spending money is to be placed in an envelope clearly marked with your scouts name and amount contained within. All monies should be in small denominations (we recommend bills no larger than $10). All envelopes will be collected by Mr. “G” in the parking lot.

Court of Honor: Friday, June 29, 2018 7:30 PM Lower Church Hall

This Friday will be a Court of Honor for Troop 37.

A Court of Honor, as the name states, is a ceremony held to present scouts with awards they have earned such as merit badges and rank badges which recognize their achievements.

Scouts should be in Full Class A Uniform with merit badge sashes.

All Parent and Family are encouraged to attend to show their support of their son’s Scouting achievements.

There will be refreshments served immediately following.

Senior Patrol and Sly Foxes Patrol (The Service Patrol) should arrive at 7:00 pm for setup.

REMINDER: Summer Camp medicals are due to be turned in.

We also need to know if Parents are attending:

1- Breakfast in Pennsylvania on Sunday July 15th

2- Chicken Dinner on Friday Evening July 20.
