Durland Camping Trip

DURLAND CAMPING TRIP   APRIL 19th– 21st, 2013

We are meeting at the Troop Shed on Friday at 4:30 PM sharp. Please be aware that
we are tent camping and the temperature can drop significantly at night so be sure to
pack properly, and please bring the following:

[ ] Bring a Sandwich or brown bag something for your Friday night dinner.
[ ] You must bring your own Cup to drink out of.
[ ] Wool or Fleece Hat
[ ] Gloves
[ ] Jacket
[ ] Hiking Boots
[ ] Extra socks
[ ] Money for the Trading Post
[ ] Water Bottle or canteen
[ ]10 Essentials
[ ]Sleeping Bag / foam pad or  air mattress
[ ] Scout Handbook

For tent camping trip to Agatha A. Durland Scout Reservation, please review and use the
packing list. The items will be necessary to insure your health and comfort while
participating in the activities planned for a camping trip. Please, NO radios, iPods,
electronic games or other sound emitting electronic devices. ALL clothing items
that a scout takes should be permanently marked with their name.

Troop Meeting April 12,2013

This week’s meeting we will be conducting a Pack Shake down BRING YOUR PACK packed according to the checklist.

No Uniforms – Uniform standards are relaxed this week–so wear your favorite T-Shirt.

This week we will again work on Lashing Skills continuing with Square Lashing – review Boy Scout Handbook pages 392-400. We will also be prepping equipment for the Durland Camping trip. (see below)

We are in the process of finalizing plans for the Agatha A. Durland Scout Reservation, Camping Trip on the weekend of April 19-21, 2013. Durland Scout reservation is located at 1 Clear Lake, Putnam Valley, NY 10579. We will be tent camping. Scouts will be cooking their own meals by Patrol.

Troop Meeting Friday February 15, 2013

This week’s Troop meeting Scouts should be in Class A uniform and be sure to bring their Boy Scout Handbook.  This month’s theme is Citizenship.

If you plan on attending the Feb. 22nd-24th Camp Bullowa camping trip the cost is- $30.00 – You also need to turn in a Permission Slip {click here}.  Please turn in to Mrs. Nadal, Troop Treasurer, at the beginning of meeting.

Troop Meeting Friday February 1, 2013

This Friday‘s meeting we will wear Class B” T-shirts or Fleece so that everyone’s uniform shirt and pants will be cleaned / pressed and looking sharp for Scout Sunday February 3rd 9:00 AM Mass and the 11:00 Breakfast at the Staaten. If you have not paid $25.00 for the Breakfast yet please see Mrs. Nadal

[  ] SPL and Patrol Leaders –please be sure to contact your Patrol members and obtain headcount for Klondike Derby

[  ] If you are attending the Klondike Derby Feb. 9, 2013 please bring $15.00 to the meeting this Friday

[  ] If you have a Stave/Staff (or walking stick) bring it to the Meeting.

[  ] We will also be working on Patrol Flags

Troop Meeting January 18

Troop Meeting 7:30 PM Friday January 18, 2013

This past weekend the Troop had a great time camping at Winnebago Scout Reservation and those Scouts who didn’t go camping conducted community service at the Church of the Ascension.

This week’s Troop meeting Scouts should be in Class A uniform and be sure to bring their Boy Scout Handbook. We will be introducingThe SCOUTStrong Presidential Active Lifestyle Award Challenge.

Scouting Families: If you have not handed in your Raffle Basket for the Pancake breakfast nor paid the $10 for your family food tickets, please be sure to bring it to this week’s meeting.

Dec. 28th– NO Meeting- School Closed

Next Troop Meeting 7:30 PM – Friday January 4, 2013 – Knot of the Month: “Bowline”

We must know if you are attending our Camping Trip to Winnebago, New Jersey for cabin camping. The trip is on January 11, 12, and 13, with a cost of $30 per person. If you plan on attending you must turn in your PERMISSION FORM [Click Here] and payment. This is the cutoff date if  you want to attend and the only meeting before the trip to prepare. We need a confirmation Yes or No headcount for planning menus and arranging for drivers.

We will be collecting toiletries for the Church of the Ascension this will be your last chance to donate. Remember that A Scout is Helpful. (It is your choice of bring any of the following items: shampoo, soap, deodorant, combs, hairbrushes, toothpaste, tooth brushes, shaving cream, shaving razors or talcum powder.)

There will also be a “Know Knot Challenge” for anyone wants to try. If you beat the challenge  Your patrol will also be awarded points. (click here for challenge info)

 


Eagle Ceremony

Eagle Ceremony 7:30 PM Saturday November 24, 2013, St. Teresa’s Conran Hal-1634 Victory Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10314 All Scouts are expected to attend. The Troop will be conducting an Eagle Court of Honor for Gabriel Owolabi and Jack Rozak. All Troop 37 Scouts required to attend, please be in Class A Uniform with Merit badge sashes and arrive no later than 7:15 PM. Parents and family are invited. If you haven’t already RSVP’d, please do so to Anne Marie Santo at 917-751-8731 or email her at annemarie.santo@gmail.com Setup for Eagle Court of Honor Saturday Afternoon March 12, 2011 – 3:00 PM Set up for Eagle Court of Honor at Conran Hall Gymnasium and practice for the Color Guard will be at 3:00 PM. Uniform: “Class A” We are holding a Uniform Inspection- Patrol Points

 

We are going to be preparing for the upcoming hiking/ backpacking trip to Pouch Camp on November 16th, 17th & 18th.

 

If you are attending the Backpacking trip, you need to bring $25.00 and signed permission slip to the meeting.

Please be sure to bring your Boy Scout Handbook-

This week Scout Skills Instruction we will work on Hiking/Backpacking – review Boy Scout Handbook pages 262-283. We will also be demonstrating how to cook backpacking meals with a turkey bag.

The “Clove Hitch” is the Knot of the Month – Know how to tie it!

October 26 Merit Badge Meeting

October 26, 2012: Merit Badge Meeting

This Friday will be our merit badge meeting. Scouts are encouraged to bring any and all materials or workbooks that they need for their merit badges. All Merit Badge Books from the Troop library must be signed out, and please make sure to return any Merit Badge Books when finished. Merit Badge workbooks and requirements/ information can be obtained at Merit Badge Research Center http://www.meritbadge.com/

We had great weather and a fantastic time on the Fort Wadsworth Urban Camping Trip, Thanks to all the Adult Leaders and Parents who attended and helped with transportation. During part of this week’s meeting those Scouts not actively working on Merit Badges we will be straightening up equipment from the Trip.

We will be collecting all the wrapped baskets for the Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser at this week’s meeting, October 26th, and at next week’s meeting November 2nd.  If anyone has anything else they would like to donate they can bring it then as well.

Fort Wadsworth Camping Trip

Camping Trip October 19, 20, & 21 2012 Fort Wadsworth Urban Campsite

The Troop will be tent camping at Fort Wadsworth for the weekend

  • We will depart from the Troop shed on Friday afternoon around 4:30 PM.
  •  Scouts and Adults Must bring “Class A Uniform” for Saturday
  •  Bring your own snack/dinner for Friday evening.
  •  Patrols will be Patrol Cooking.
  •  Bring a mess kit (Cup, Knife, Fork Spoon, & Bowl or Dish)
  •  Pack appropriately for the weather (rain gear, warm enough Jacket) using the Camping  Personal Checklist. (click here)
  •  If you have any questions contact your Patrol and/or Senior Patrol Leader.

 

We could use the help from a couple of Parents to assist with transportation-  just to drop off on Friday and pick up at Fort Wadsworth on Sunday morning at 12:30.
