March 1, 2013: Merit Badge Meeting

We had an awesome  time on the Bullowa Camping Trip, took an 8 ½  mile hike, worked on map and compass skills, chopped wood, manhunt, learned about Dutch Oven’s,  ate some awesome meals and Dutch oven desserts. Thanks to all the Adult Leaders who attended, transported, and helped out.

This Friday will be our merit badge meeting. Class A Uniform. Scouts are encouraged to bring any and all materials or workbooks that they need for their merit badges. All Merit Badge Books from the Troop library must be signed out, and please make sure to return any Merit Badge Books when finished. Merit Badge workbooks and requirements/ information can be obtained at Merit Badge Research Center:  http://www.meritbadge.com/

Our Troop meeting starts promptly at 7:30 PM please be on time, Service Patrol, Troop Librarians and Senior Patrol should arrive no later than 7:15.

Service Project Tomorrow – Monday February 18, 2013, 6:15 PM

Saint Teresa’s is hosting the Cardinal’s Appeal Kick-Off Event for Staten Island. Cardinal Dolan will be coming to lead an Evening Prayer Service in St Teresa’s Church at 7:00 PM Monday, February 18, followed by a fundraising gathering in Conran Hall. I am looking for a dozen or so older Scouts and Adults / Leaders to assist with controlling and directing parking in the same manor we previously did for the Ecumenical Service. We should be completed NLT 8:15 PM.

  • Meet at Lower Church 6:15 PM
  • Class A Uniform
  • Bring a Flashlight
  • Dress warm
  • I will have reflective vests.

February 22, 23, & 24, 2013: Bullowa Scout Camp Trip

The Troop will be Cabin Camping at Bullowa Scout Camp, 15 Franck Rd, Stony Point NY, 10980 for the weekend. We will depart from the Troop shed on Friday afternoon (02/22) meet there at 4:30 PM

You must wear boots and bring a Cup to drink out of. Be sure to bring a Utensil kit (knife, fork, & spoon)

Scouts should pack for this trip using a soft duffle or gym bag rather than backpacks to save on space for loading vehicles.

“Be Prepared” Pack proper clothes for the weather. Check the forcast. Dress in LAYERS and bring the following:

  • [ ] Sandwich for Friday night
  • [ ] Hat
  • [ ] Gloves
  • [ ] Heavy Jacket [ ] Raingear
  • [ ] Hiking Boots
  • [ ] Extra socks
  • [ ] Cup for drinking (hot chocolate)
  • [ ] Utensil Kit (everybody has one)
  • [ ] Sleeping Bag (do not need pad)
  • [ ] Day pack/String Pack for Hike
  • [ ] Water Bottle or canteen
  • [ ]10 Essentials
  • [ ] Hiking Stave/Staff
  • [ ] Scout Handbook
  • [ ] Money for the Trading Post

Cancelled Events

Due to impending Winter Storm Nemo please be aware of the status of the following Troop 37 planned events:

Klondike Derby Saturday Feb. 9, 2013CANCELLED

Service Project-Burn Palms-Sunday Feb. 10, 2013 is Still Scheduled meet 12:30 PM at Lower Church Hall- no uniforms.

Patrol Leaders please be sure to contact all your members.

Troop 37 enjoy the snow but remember to do a good turn daily – Maybe help to shovel any senior citizens sidewalks in your neighborhood.


Troop Meeting Friday January 25, 2013

This Friday‘s Merit Badge meeting –“. We will wear Class B” Uniforms due to this Sunday’s Pancake Breakfast. We again ask that all scouts help set up and attend this Sunday’s Pancake Breakfast, and Silent Auction our largest fundraiser of the year.

[ ] This week is a Merit Badge Meeting so please ”BE PREPARED” to work on a merit
badge and bring your worksheets, especially anyone with partials.

[ ] If you have any Troop Merit Badges books you are no longer using please return
them and make sure they are signed back in by the Troop Librarian.

[ ] Bring Scout Handbooks -if you are sitting for a Board of Review

January 14, 25, & 13, 2011: Winnebago Scout Reservation Camping Trip Or Community Service at Church of the Ascension

The Troop will be Cabin Camping at Winnebago Scout Reservation, 102 Timberbrook Road, Rockaway NJ, for the weekend. We will depart from the Troop shed on Friday afternoon (01/11) meet there at 4:30 PM. (If you are not attending Trip please see below Community Service event where you help is needed by the Troop.)

You must bring your own Cup to drink out of and your Utensil kit (knife, fork, spoon) if you want to eat. (every Scout received a utensil Kit from Santa)

    • Each year, Troop 37 helps support our community by being of service to those in need.  One way we do this is by helping with the above event.  Parents are welcome to assist.


Troop Meeting Friday December 21, 2012

We will be working on First Aid skills and the Two Half Hitches Knot. Please review Boy Scout Handbook – First Aid Chapter 4, starting on pg. 125 and be sure to bring your handbook to the meeting. (Patrol Points). Uniform: Class A

Winnebago Scout Reservation- Camping Trip Cabins, If you plan on attending the
January 11-13, 2013 trip please bring signed permission slip and payment of $30. The
cutoff date if you want to attend this trip is Jan 4th. (Permission slips on Troop Web Site)

• Collecting Toiletries
We will be collecting toiletries for the Lakeside Manor at the meeting this week. It is
your choice of to bring any of the following items: shampoo, soap, deodorant, combs,
hairbrushes, toothpaste, tooth brushes, shaving cream, shaving razors or talcum
powder. These will be distributed to Senior Citizens at the Church of the Ascension’s
annual holiday luncheon in January.(Community Service Flyer)

The “Know Knot Challenge” will be held for anyone who is ready!

Merit Badge Meeting
This Friday December 7, 2012, will be a Merit Badge Meeting. Please remember to bring all your merit badge worksheets, books, and any other necessary items needed for the merit badge that you are taking. All Merit Badge Books from the Troop library must be signed out, and please make sure to return any Merit Badge Books when finished.
Service Patrol and Troop Librarians please arrive early to set up.

Collecting Toiletries
We will be collecting toiletries for the Lakeside Manor at the meeting this week. It is your choice of to bring any of the following items: shampoo, soap, deodorant, combs, hairbrushes, toothpaste, tooth brushes, shaving cream, shaving razors or talcum powder. These will be distributed to Senior Citizens at the Church of the Ascension’s annual holiday luncheon in January.

Troop 37 Annual Holiday Party
The Annual Christmas Party for Troop 37 & Family is being held on Friday December 14, 2012. Parents and siblings are encouraged to attend. Patrol Leaders and Senior Patrol must obtain an accurate head count for the number of Scouts, Parents, and Sibling who plan on attending.  In addition to pizza, soda, hot cocoa / cider, donuts, skits and songs we are expecting a visit from Santa and he needs to know who is coming.

Ad Altari Dei
Scouts who’ve signed up to earn the Ad Altari Dei religious award are expected to be at the meeting at 7PM to review the next steps of the award with Mr. Nadal.

Knot of the Month” is Two Half Hitches. You also need to know the knots of the previous months (Square Knot, Sheet Bend, and the Clove Hitch).
