Friday, March 14th – Webelos Crossover

This Friday we will be conducting the Webelos Crossover.  All scouts are to be in Class A uniform.

The Forestburg Camping Trip is not cancelled at the end of March. If you have not paid you may do so at this meeting. Please insure you bring in your signed permission slips (Click here to download) and $30 payment for Forestburg Scout Reservation Camping trip.

Forestburg Packing:

  • Soft duffel bag for clothes
  • Warm clothes (an extra days worth of clothes, plan for getting wet) No shorts allowed.
  • Hat/Gloves/Jacket
  • Sleeping bag
  • Boots (Waterproof preferred), a few extra pairs of socks and a second pair of shoes 
  • Full Water Bottle / Drinking Cup / Fork, Spoon and Knife (There will be no utensils provided by Troop or Organizers)
  • Sandwich and Drink for Friday evening dinner
  • Football (if you have one)

This week Scout Skills Instruction we will work on Cooking/ Propane Stove Safety – review Boy Scout Handbook pages 314-342 & 414-415. We will also be prepping equipment for the Ft. Wadsworth Camping trip.

Court of Honor

Court of Honor:  Friday, October 5, 2012

On Friday will be our Fall Court of Honor for our scouts.

A Court of Honor, as the name states, is a ceremony held to present scouts with awards they have earned such as merit badges and rank badges which recognize their achievements.

Scouts should be in Full Class A“ Uniform with merit badge sashes.

Senior Patrol and Service Patrol should arrive at 7:00 pm for setup.

All Parent and Family are encouraged to attend. There will be refreshments served immediately following.

IMPORTANT- If you are attending the Oct 19 -21 Fort Wadsworth Camping Trip please bring $25.00 and Permission Slip {download here}

If YOU want to attend, Payment and Permission slip must be turned in no later than this Friday October 5, 2012 or you will not be able to attend!!!!

**Pancake BreakfastIf you have not chosen a Raffle Basket for the Pancake breakfast nor paid the $10 for your family food tickets, Mrs. Naughton will be at the Court of Honor with the remaining basket choices and accepting the fee for you family food tickets. Be sure to see her at some point.

**Staten Island Half Marathon: Troop 37 needs the assistance of Scouts, Parents, older brother and sisters to assist with staffing two water stations.

When: Sunday October 7, 2012- 6:30 am to 11:30 am Home before Noon

Where: Location ChangeBay Street and Maryland Ave
(one block south of Hyland Blvd f/o Bagels by the Bay  @ 1237 Bay Street)

Ad Altari Dei Retreat

If  you signed up to earn the Ad Altari Dei Religious Medal, one your requirements is to attend a retreat and you’re in luck.

The 2012 Archdiocesan Annual Catholic Scout Retreat is being hosted by the Marydell Faith & Life Center on November 17, 2012 from 8:30 am to 5:30 PM in Nyack, New York.

Troop Meeting Friday September 28, 2012

This week we are NOT MEETING IN THE LOWER CHURCH HALL

WE ARE MEETING AT THE ST TERESA’S PARISH HOUSE  located on the corner of Windsor Place and Slosson Avenue by the large parking lot. “Class A” Uniform.

[  ] Scouts who did not bring their Scout Handbooks last week must bring them this week so they can be entered into Troopmaster

[  ] If you are attending the Oct 19 -21 Fort Wadsworth Camping Trip please bring $25.00 and Permission Slip {download here}. If you want to attend, Payment and Permission slip  must be turned no later than Friday October 5, 2012

[  ] Troop 37 needs the assistance of Scouts, Parents, older brother and sisters to assist with staffing two water stations for the Staten Island Half Marathon:

When:  Sunday October 7, 2012-  7:00 am to 11:30 am  Home before Noon

Where: Corner of Father Capodanno Blvd. and McClean Ave.

Who: Scouts, Parents, Adults, older Brothers and Sisters

What: Staff water stations- NO UNIFORMS

How: Setting up – filling cups with water and placing on tables for the runners Why: A Donation will be made to Troop 37 for each volunteer present.

Junior Leader Training Weekend – Friday, September 21-23

If you have received an email with your name in the attached sheet, you have been selected to attend the Troop 37 Junior Leader Training Weekend. Congratulations!

Someone from the Senior Patrol will be contacting you to verify if you are attending or not. If you do not hear from someone in the Senior Patrol, please contact them and let them know if you will attending or not.

Some of you may not make be able to attend due to other obligations – this is not a problem. There is always next year. You will still have a Troop leadership position.

Information about JLT Trip:

What is JLT? JLT Training is the leadership training given primarily by the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters to all the youth leaders in their troop. ALL Boy Scout troops should conduct the JLT course with every leadership shift—whether it is when the youth get a new troop position or a patrol leadership role.

Camping- Sleeping in Tents ( bring sleeping bag/mattress)

Food – Adults are Cooking-No Patrol Cooking

No Backpacks – Use a soft Bag or small Duffle /gym Bag

Must Bring
1) $10.00 Pay for Trip (food& Transportation)
2) A Cup to Drink out of (we are not bringing paper/ foam cups)
3) Pack a sandwich/snack for Friday night’s dinner
4) Hiking Boots – no sneakers

Camping/Folding Chair is–Recommended


Troop Meeting – Friday, September 14th

This weeks meeting will be in lower church hall @ 7:30p.  We will be focusing on “Stranger Danger”.

Dress code:

- Class “B” T-shirt

- Shorts or Sweat pants

- Sneakers (No Boots)

Also, please bring your Scout Handbooks as we are updating Troop Master and will be updating your handbooks as needed.

Parents are asked to attend registration

Registration Fees:

$100 for one child / $150 for two children

Please make checks payable to ” BSA Troop 37″

$10 per scout will be collected for food supplies and each family will be given a theme for their gift basket to support the Pancake Breakfast

Scouts should be dressed in class a Uniform and bring their Scout Handbook so entries from summer camp can be recorded.

 The Knot of the Month is the Square Knot.

Eagle Scout Recognition Day – September 2, 2012

GNYC and The New York Yankees are proud to present Eagle Scout Recognition Day!

On Sunday, September 2nd we’re inviting out all GNYC Troops to recognize the Scouts who have earned the highest honor in Scouting.

All Eagle Scouts who have earned the rank of Eagle in the past Scouting year (2011-2012) will be on the field before the game for a recognition ceremony.

This event is free of charge thanks to the generosity of the New York Yankees. GNYC Boy Scouts are invited to celebrate this achievement, and be inspired to work toward their Eagle.

The game starts at 1pm, please arrive promptly at Stadium Gate 6 at 12pm to retrieve your tickets. Tickets will only be guaranteed to the first 200 Boy Scouts, with preference going to Eagle Scouts first.

1. Can non-Eagle Scouts Register: Yes.
2. How do we get tickets? Register your participants at bsa-gnyc.org/eagleday, then arrive at Stadium Gate 6 at 12pm on game day. I’ll be there handing out tickets to registered participants.
3. How will you know who Eagle Scouts are? Once registered online, each participant recieves an automated email directing them to email me at jrodstro@bsamail.org if they’re an Eagle Scout.

Important Summer Camp Information

We will all meet for Mass at Saint Teresa’s this Sunday July 15th at 7:00 AM Sharp. Meet at the Lower Church Hall parking lot. After the vehicles are loaded and Mass is finished we will leave for the camp at about 8:30 AM.

We will make our annual stop again this year at the Haag’s Hotel, Shartlesville, PA for a Breakfast Buffet. (Directions Here)

If you have any outstanding medical forms or funds to turn in please be sure do so.

Families are needed to drive up to the camp with us. There will be a lot of equipment and scouts to transport.

  • All Scouts and leaders will wear the Class B Troop T-shirt up to the camp and Breakfast. We will change into Class “A” once we arrive at camp.
  • Please make sure you son(s) have their bathing suit on under their class B uniform (scout shorts/pants, socks, belt, Troop T-shirt)or readily available (not packed in a trunk) with their towel. They should also have their Class A Uniform shirt readily available (not packed in a trunk) for as soon as we arrive at camp to take the troop photo.
  • Thursday is Hawaiian Shirt Day at Camp if you have a Hawaiian shirt bring it.
  • Be sure to bring Scout Socks  Full dress class A uniform for all evening meals at the dining hall. For both camp wide campfires full dress class A uniform including Scout Socks
  • Bring a Hanger to Hang up your Uniform
  • Put you name or initials on the labels of all your clothing (especially uniform items and Troop Tshirts)
  • Don’t Bring Valuables or any Electronic Devices (Ipod’s, games, phones, radios, etc.) to camp. Leave them at home.
