Friday January 9, 2015 Greenbar and Regular Troop meeting

This Friday we begin with our Greenbar meeting, so all Greenbar members need to be in the Lower Church Hall at 6:30 PM and have their meeting ideas/plans for this month.

This month’s theme is “Public Servicewe are fortunate to have Deputy Borough President Edward Burke as a Guest Speaker at this week’s meeting. The Troop Meeting begins promptly at 7:30 PM. All Scouts should be in Class “A” Uniform and have their Scout Handbooks.

Signed permission slip (permission slip link)  and $30.00 Payment must be submitted at this Friday’s meeting in order to attend the trip. We need an accurate headcount to plan meals and arrange transportation.

“Knot of the Month” is Two Half Hitches- You also need to know the knots of the previous months (Square, Sheet Bend, Clove Hitch, Bowline)

We were just recently asked to provide the subject annual community service and an Honor Guard for the residents of the Lakeside Manor.

CLASS A UNIFORMS REQUIRED.  Kindly see the attached flyer for details.
Remember: This is one of the most important activities for the Residents of Lakeside Manor Home for Adults.  Here’s what the church wrote about our past support: “The presence of the Scouts was inspiring; their help was essential to the success of the event. The boys were attentive to the needs of the guests and gracious in their willingness to serve the less fortunate.”

On our way to the section we had selected for laying wreaths, we encountered an Air Force major and three members of the Civil Air Patrol who had been tasked with offloading an entire 18-wheeler stacked floor-to-ceiling, and wall-to-wall with cases of wreaths. He was profoundly grateful for our offer to assist.

The boys took turns working on the truck, as the rest either grabbed boxes of wreaths off the back, or broke down and stacked the empties on pallets, all while going out and laying wreaths on the graves.

They worked quietly and diligently throughout. When a colonel came by and complimented the major on the smooth and efficient operation, he replied that the credit belonged to the thirty scouts and leaders who offered to help and just started working. As they stood watching in admiration, the major told the colonel that he wished his lieutenants in training were as self-motivated as these scouts. The colonel suggested he tell them on Monday morning, then got in on helping to offload the truck.

The boys from both troops were terrific, and several assisted elderly vets in laying wreaths on the graves of fallen comrades. Words cannot express how proud we are of every one of you guys.

The Troop will be Cabin Camping at William B. Snyder Scout Camp for the weekend and participating on Saturday in Wreaths Across America at Arlington Cemetery                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Camp William B. We will depart from the Troop shed on Friday afternoon (12/12/14) meet there at 4:30 PM

You must wear FULL Class A Uniform and boots and be sure to bring a Cup to drink out of.

Scouts should pack for this trip using a soft duffle or gym bag rather than backpacks to save on space for loading vehicles.

“Be Prepared” Pack proper clothes for the weather. Check the forecast. Dress in LAYERS and bring the following:

  • [ ] Insulated long underwear/ underarmour
  • [ ] Heavy Jacket [ ] Raingear
  • [ ] Hiking Boots -A Must-

  • [ ] Day pack/String Pack for Hike

  • [ ] Money for the Trading Post/ Gift shop

This Friday will be our merit badge meeting. Scouts are encouraged to bring any and all materials or workbooks that they need for their merit badges.

Please BE PREPARED to work on a Merit Badge.

Merit Badge workbooks and requirements/ information can be obtained at Merit Badge Research Center

All Merit Badge Books from the Troop library must be signed out, and please make sure to return any Merit Badge Books when finished.

We must know if you are attending Trip to Arlington Cemetery for cabin camping.

The trip is on December 12, 13, & 14, with a cost of $ 40 per person.

If you plan on attending you must turn in your PERMISSION FORM (click here to download permission slip) and payment. This is the only meeting before the trip to prepare. We need a confirmation Yes or No headcount for planning menus and arranging for drivers.

Nov. 21, 2014 – Regular Troop Meeting

Update: Are you working on Citizenship in the World Merit Badge? Have you completed Requiremen​t 7.c [visit with a student from another country]?  No? Well, you’re in luck.  Life Scout Ben Lattanzio’s family is hosting an Italian High School Exchange Student who will be attending tonight’s meeting.  Here is your chance to complete that requirement, so be sure to bring your worksheet or paper and a pen/pencil and be prepared to take notes.

Friday at 6:30pm we will be having a Religious Emblem meeting followed by our regular Troop meeting @ 7:30PM in Lower Church Hall of St. Teresa.

Scouts should be in Full Class A Uniform with their handbooks to have an rank requirements signed off from last weekend’s hike.

Saturday, Nov. 22nd, 2014: 9am to 4pm, we will be offering “CPR and First Aid skills for civilian first responders” course (click here to download flyer) conducted by Mr. Nadal, Mrs. Nuccio, Mr. Mendez and Mrs. Coriasco (Mr. Mendez’s Spouse).

Cost is a special discounted price of $55 per person. Lunch will be provided. Be sure to invite you family and friends.
