TROOP #37 – Calling all Scouts 10/09/11

 Troop needs the assistance of Scouts, Parents, older brother and sisters, and/or friends to assist with staffing two water stations for the Staten Island Half Marathon:

WHEN: Sunday October 9, 2011  - 7:30 am to 11:30 am

WHERE: Corner of Father Capodanno Blvd and McClean Ave.   

                                                                   (back entrance to Ft Wadsworth)

WHO: Scouts, Adults, older Brother and Sisters, Friends

WHAT: No uniforms necessary

HOW:  We will be filling cups with water and then passing them to the runners. You will be home before noon.

WHY: Community Service -All time spent assisting will count as Community  Service for advancement.

 Please arrive by 7:30 am to be accounted for

Our Troop meeting starts promptly at 7:30 PM please be on time, in Uniform and bring your Scout Handbook.

If you are attending Alpine Camping Trip on 14, 15, & 16 OCT

You must turn in [  ] Permission Slip and [  ] $ 25.00 cash or check made out to BSA Troop # 37 (Permission Slip Download)

Patrol Leaders should contact all members before meeting and have an accurate headcount. Bring draft menus and Duty rosters to Troop meeting for completion and approval.

Service Patrol please be sure to arrive by 7:20 PM to setup for meeting

The Boy Scouts of America and the President’s Challenge program have teamed up to help Scouts of all ages and abilities increase their level of physical activity by completing SCOUTStrong Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA). PALA is designed to motivate participants to be physically active on a regular basis by doing activities they enjoy like walking, hiking, playing outside with kids, mowing the lawn, yoga, and more. To achieve SCOUTStrong PALA, your goal is to be active at least five days a week for six out of eight weeks. Are you ready to take on the challenge? When signing up, our Council is the Greater New York Council # 640.

Merit Badge Books – Anyone who borrowed merit badge books from the Troop Library for summer camp please return them this week. Return books directly to the Troop Librarian so that he removes your name from the outstanding books list. 
 
Board of Review (BOR) – We will be conducting a large number of BOR’s. Scouts who require a BOR must first have a Scoutmaster Conference and must also be in Class A uniform and have their Scout Handbook.

Friday September 9, 2011 7:30 is our first Troop meeting / Registration

Friday, 7:30 PM September 9, 2011 is our first Troop Meeting and we will be conducting registration. Please be sure to bring the $85.00 annual registration fee. Scouts should be dressed in class a Uniform and bring their Scout Handbook so entries from summer camp can be recorded. The Knot of the Month is the Clove Hitch.

Kyle Naughton’s Eagle Scout Project – July 9-10, 2011

Kyle Naughton will be having his Eagle Scout project on July 9th though July 10th in Saint Teresa’s large schoolyard. The times for the project are:

July 8th: 4pm-8pm
July 9th: 7am-4pm
July 10th: As needed

Update: We are not longer meeting on Friday due to weather. The work has been pushed back to stay longer on the 10th (Sunday)

Wednesday July 6th, 2011 – BBQ

On Wednesday Evening  July 6, 2011. beginning at 6:30 PM  St Teresa’s Lower Church Hall (LCH).
Troop 37 will have a BBQ  in the Lower Church Hall Parking lot with the unused Canoe Trip Food. We will also be there to:
  • Collect any  Outstanding Summer Camp Payments / Refund any Canoe trip payments
  • Collect  Summer Camp Medicals
  • Distribute Troop T-shirts to Scouts
So bring your son’s medical,  payment balance if any, get his Troop T-shirts and have a hotdog/ steak  for dinner. 
Parents We must have a completed Medical in order for your son to attend Summer Camp.

Canoe Trip: CANCELLED -Weather Call

As of 6/24/2011 10:30 AM-

  • River is currently surging 8 feet above normal.
  • No Canoes or Kayaks are being rented.
  • Camp site is partially submerged.
  • Possibility of thunderstorms /flash floods.

Reimbursements will be made at a future date.
