Troop Meeting Friday November 6, 2012

We are going to be preparing for the upcoming hiking/ backpacking trip to Pouch Camp on November 20th, 21st & 22nd.

If you are attending the Backpacking trip, you need to bring $25.00 and signed permission slip to the meeting. 

Please be sure to bring your Boy Scout Handbook-This week Scout Skills Instruction we will work on Hiking/Backpacking review Boy Scout Handbook pages 262-283. We will also be demonstrating how to properly pack.

Uniform: “Class A” We are holding a Uniform Inspection- Patrol Points

The “Clove Hitch” is the Knot of the Month – Know how to tie it! You also will need to know the knots of the previous months (Square, Sheet Bend,)

Green Bar Meeting- 6:30 PM prior to Troop Meeting.

Our Troop meeting starts promptly at 7:30 PM please be on time, Service Patrol should arrive no later than 7:15.

Friday Merit Badge Meeting update and November Backpacking Trip to Pouch

This Friday’s meeting attire is regular civilian clothing so your Class “A” uniform and be clean and tidy for this Sunday’s Pancake Breakfast.

On Friday November 20th 2015 will be our annual Backpacking Trip to Pouch Camp. It’s one of the most exciting and fun trips we have. On Friday night we all come to the meeting at regular time with our packs already packed. We distribute all our food and equipment by Patrols and then into everyone’s pack. (We are not bringing Patrol Boxes) Next we will have a shakedown inspection of everyone’s equipment and pack. We then watch a movie hang out have some snacks and that night we sleep over in the lower church hall.  We wake up the next morning have bagels and OJ for breakfast and then hike the greenbelt blue trail to pouch camp. When we arrive at Pouch Camp we drop our packs eat lunch have some patrol competitions, some training, hang out, and then have a campfire. On Saturday night we sleep over in lean-tos so there are no tents to set up or take down and the next morning sometime after breakfast we hike back to the shed.

Friday, October 30th – Merit Badge Meeting

Merit Badge Meeting

This Friday October 30, 2015, we will be having Merit Badge Meeting in Lower Church Hall @ 7:30pm.  All scouts are to be in Class A uniform. Please remember to bring all your merit badge worksheets, books, and any other necessary items needed for the merit badge that you are working on. Scouts who signed out Merit Badge Books and have completed the merit badge please return them to Librarian. All Merit Badge Books from the Troop library must be signed out. Troop Librarians please arrive early to set up Library.


Troop Equipment- Scouts who were assigned to clean or dry Tents and Canopies must be returned at meetingTroop Quartermaster’s please arrive early to check back in gear.

Service Patrol:  Blackhawks please arrive early to set up LCH.

Color Guard Volunteers Needed


Attention Scouts. We have been requested to once again provide a Color Guard for the Hurricane Sandy third anniversary solidarity march at South Beach.

Date: This Thursday 10/29
Time: Assemble 6 PM for 6:30 March
Place: Dolphin Fountains at Sand Lane and Fr. Capodanno Blvd.
Duration: about 1-1.5 Hours

2.5 hours of community service time will be awarded to each scout to also compensate for travel time. FULL DRESS UNIFORM, including sash and medals. Last year we were photographed and pictures and stories appeared in papers all around the country. Please respond to Mr. Nadal ASAP if you are able to make it (347-466-0075). Refreshments will be served after the march.


The Troop will be Tent Camping and Patrol Cooking at Alpine Scout Camp for the weekend and will hike the Historic Palisades Trail.

All scouts attending:

  • We will depart from the Troop shed on Friday afternoon (10/23/15) meet there at 4:30 PM. Be in Class “B” Uniform You must wear boots and be sure to bring a Cup to drink out of.

“Be Prepared” Pack proper clothes for the weather. Check the forecast. Dress in LAYERS and bring the following:

  • [ ] Sandwich for Friday night
  • [ ] Hat
  • [ ] Jacket
  • [ ] Raingear
  • [ ] Hiking Boots -A Must- (sneakers can be packed)
  • [ ] Extra socks
  • [ ] Cup for drinking
  • [ ] Sleeping Bag ( pad or air mattress)
  • [ ] Day pack/String Pack for Hike
  • [ ] Day Packs should have room for the Ten Essentials! (Click here to download)
  • [ ] 2 Full Water Bottles or canteen
  • [ ]10 Essentials (including Compass)
  • [ ] Scout Handbook
  • [ ] Money for the Trading Post
  • [ ] Patrol Leaders have a gear list of items you will need from shed.


Please review and use the packing list . The items will be necessary to insure your health and comfort while participating in the activities planned for a camping trip. Please, NO radios, iPods, Cell phones, electronic games or other sound emitting electronic devices. ALL clothing items that a scout takes should be permanently marked with their name.

Color Guard Needed for Fundraising Event Friday Oct. 23

Troop 37 has been asked by GNYC to once again provide a color guard for a major fundraising luncheon in Manhattan this coming Friday, October 23.

We’ll be departing from the shed at 9 AM and returning home by 4 PM.

Scouts will be dropped off at home so that they can gather their equipment for the camping trip.

Lunch will be provided, and scouts will receive seven hours of community service for the day.

Court of Honor


On Friday October 16, 2015 at 7:30 PM we will be conducting the Fall Court of Honor for our scouts in the Lower Church Hall. A Court of Honor, as the name states, is a ceremony held to present scouts with awards they have earned such as merit badges and rank badges which recognize their achievements.

Scouts should be in Full Class AUniform with merit badge sashes worn over the shoulder (Not folded over the belt).

Senior Patrol and Service Patrol- “Howling Coyotes” should arrive at 7:00 pm for setup.

All Parents are encouraged to attend.

The Court of Honor recognizes all Scout appointments, elections, awards and advancements since the last Court of Honor. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.  Even if a Scout is not advancing, he should come to every Court of Honor to encourage other Scouts and to be inspired to move forward. The Court of Honor is a public ceremony, and is a chance for the Scouts to be publicly recognized for their achievements.

Friday, Oct. 9 – Troop Meeting – Green Bar and Board of Review

This Friday we will be having our Troop meeting in Lower Church Hall. Scouts should be in Class “A” uniform and have their scout handbook.

We will begin with a Green Bar meeting at 6:30pm. All new leadership scouts should be in attendance with their ideas ready to go.

Patrol Box Exchange: 2014-2015 Patrol leaders must bring in their Patrol Box to give to the 2015-2016 Patrol leaders. The patrol box MUST BE CLEAN AND NEAT to hand over. If it is sticky, dirty or just awful you will be required to take home to clean and bring back. Adult Leaders will be checking. 2015-2016 Patrol Leaders should be prepared to take home your new Patrol Box.

Pancake Breakfast/Chinese Auction: Scout family gift baskets are due. Please see Ms. Cocozza or Mrs. Naughton. We are also accepting any empty baskets for use with other prizes or item you wish to re-gift.

Oct. 23rd Aviation Luncheon Color Guard: We are looking for a few good scouts interested in being a part of the Color Guard for the Aviation Luncheon in Manhattan. G NYC Council will provide letters for your schools to explain your absence. Please see Mr. Nadal if you are interested.

New Venture Patrol for 2015-2016: Are you 14 years or older? Are you First Class or higher? Have you participated at least 50% or higher of the Troop’s outings and meetings? If you answered “Yes” to these questions then you can be a part of the Venture Patrol. The Venture Patrol is “The Patrol within Patrols”.

Eligible scouts from the different existing patrols have the opportunity to participate in high adventure activities separate from or even during Troop camping trips. Going to Alpine this month? Then you have the opportunity to bump up your game and hike further than the 12 miles the Troop is currently set to do. Have more questions?




With a heavy heart…

The Hon. Louis R. Jerome, father of Steven A. Jerome, Assistant Scoutmaster and grandfather of Steven M. Jerome, Life Scout in Troop 37, passed away Friday October 2, 2015.

Friends will be received Monday and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at Harmon Home for Funerals, 571 Forest Ave, West Brighton.   A Mass of Chrisitian Burial will be held at St. Teresa’s Church on Wednesday 10:45 A.M. Interment St. Peter’s Cemetery.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Teresa’s Church, 1634 Victory Blvd., S.I., NY 10314 would be appreciated.
